You know I am surprised with the use of technology and such...actual titanium isnt being used to make hand tools for the extreme high end products.....I am talking wrenches and sockets...and possibly ratchets....yes they would be extremely light weight....but the strength over steel is far superior....you could possibly still get the same torque as a conventional wrench or socket at have the weight if not more....I mean chrome has been around for awhile....just surprised titanium hasnt made it into the market place...but yes the price would be outrageous and could only be used on names like Snap-on and such

And of course I am not talking about the stupid Sears Craftsmen blue titanium finished ratchets and sockets here

Titanium wrenches were used in the McLauren F1 road car's tool kit. I'm not sure who made the wrenches though, or if they're still being made.

i'm 99% sure they were made from real titanium because they wanted a tool kit with the car but didn't want the extra weight. it wouldn't make sense to just use titanium coated tools, there wouldn't be much of a weight loss.

The only drawbacks I can think of is that titanium is expensive and scratches very easily. I have read that it stains easily also, so I'm not sure how it would look after being used for a week around a garage with oil and other chemicals.

A single titanium ratchet might be worth it for just the awe factor, but a whole set of sockets would probably break the bank.

Would titaniam core then nickel/chrome plated be scratch resistant?

I read that titanium can be chrome plated, it isn't easy though. If I pay god knows how much for a Ti ratchet, I'd prefer it to be bare titanium. If it was chrome plated I would rather just buy a chrome steel one and pretend it cost me $200.

Yeah, A titanium ratchet would be pretty cool, kinda like a novelty thing, but I dont think anybody could afford a set of titanium tools... especially if they were being made by snap on.

Besides being very expensive and hard to form, it also has lower modulus of elasticity. Therefore it's going to tend to deflect more than something made out of steel.

That's why there aren't too many titanium tools.

Put a breaker bar on a titanium socket and watch what happens.

Titanium galls most metals.

I did see a titanium body impact gun recently.

Yeah the IR thunder gun uses a titanium hammercasing and they havea titanium/composite series of impact guns too.
