To insolate or not to insolate?

What to do? My shop is 1500 sq ft with not power currently. I just got some plywood to use for the interior walls(not enough, but a good start and free). Im trying to decide if I should insolate the walls or not. Right now its about 100* during the day and with the windows shut and the main garage door closed its not too bad. I have no idea how it will be once it gets cold though. What would you do?

What would I do, no way. Texas isn't cold, compared to Wisconsin. Not so bad when its a hundred outside, I could handle it. Put me in texas, I'll most likely be singing a different tune.

Your neighbors might appriciate it also if you make any noise out there.

Insulate, for sure. consider a radiant heat reflector, at least for the roof. Check out the thd here about bubble/foil insulation. RED

In my opinion, it would be better to isulate now and later on say maybe I didn't need to than to not insulate now and later say that I should have...

Insulation isn't expensive, helps keep the garage cool in the summer, and also helps with noise. Win win win they way I look at it...

I'd definitely insulate. If anything else, it could be a selling point down the road for someone that wants a conditioned work space.

Be careful on the radiant heat reflector that red caddy mentioned. If you have asphalt shingles on the roof, you could cancel the manufacturer's warranty on them. Just a thought.

Insulate, absolutely; reflective bubble/foil barrier held a half to one inch off the skin, then fiberglass batt - as thick as the wall is good for, then finish the inside as you can. Remember that batt insulation should not be compressed, it loses insulating value if it is.

I would insulate. If not, its one of those decisions thats tough to change after you put up that plywood.

Personally I would do it now. Don't worry about not doing it and then wishing you did later on. If you decide against it right now you could always use blow in insulation anytime. Your covering your walls with plywood, OK if you decide later you'll just have to drill a hole about a inch- inch and a half, buy the insulation and go after it. They make small plugs to fill the holes you drill for the insulation hose and most big box stores charge nothing for machine rental if you buy XXXX amount of bags of insulation. Good Luck.
