What do the truck brands do with the tool boxes that people trade in for upgrades? Do they take any brand box? How much do they generally give you?

There's no flat rate on how much they'll give you. Usually they will offer the used boxes taken in on trade to other customers for purchase.

Most of them that I have dealt with over the years will only take trade ins of other truck brand boxes. Dosn't matter what brand, just no "home hobbiest" type stuff. For example the Snap On guy will take a Matco box in trade but not a Harbor Freight box. Not trying to get into a ******* contest over what's considered a quality box. Just stating the facts as I know them from my own personal experience.

I have only had to deal with about 6 different dealers over the years, since I stayed working in the same shop, but my experience has been that any of them will take anything on trade......anything to seal the deal and get that new box sold. The dollar amount will vary case by case.
What happens to those trade ins depends on what it is. Bigger / nicer trades are usually sold to another customer on that dealers route and the dealers work that pretty hard - really trying to sell it nearby (my dealer is already priming a few guys to buy my old box now). Sometimes even the cheap / small stuff get bought by another customer who see's it sitting on the dealers truck. Everything else goes home to the dealers "warehouse" and who knows from there.

Ask them for the best deal with no trade-in.

Chances are, it won't differ that much from the deal WITH the trade-in when you compare the two offers...

You lookin to buy a used box or be on the trade in side?

Theres a ton of "BS" Value built into the trade amount. I got my current Craftsman setup off the SnapOn truck for $200.00, guy who traded it in got 1k towards his new KRL.

I WAS Shopping for a new Macsimizer...but I just cant get what I want (Color) so my MAC Guy is looking to get me a trade in box I can refinish. Prices he threw out were less then i've seen em for on Craigslist, he'll deliver right to the house and he will warranty anything I need to make it new.....off the truck is the way to go.

I seen a Harbor Freight toolbox in the Matco tool dealer's tooltruck, took it on trade and was an US General. He is taking in a bottom Snap On bottom box with a side box on each side and with a top chest. The customer bought a new Matco toolbox and said he paid $17,000.00 for the Snap On set up when it was brand new back in the day.

i bought most of my SO side boxes, a set of old remlines and a SO roller cab used from an old matco dealer.

i've traded in SO, matco, mac, kennedy, and remline boxes in on new SO boxes.
i always got back what i had invested in the boxes when i traded in.

Tool dealers will generally take any box that they could resell. I have purchased a craftsman from my old snappy dealer for at home. The generally give bigger trade in values because of the margins they have on the new stuff.
