I have one that I got for Christmas from my in-laws... made by K-tool.... a little higher quality than HF. Works perfrct for what I do. It's a three drawer, and is my main "toolbox."

I bought 2 from Home Depot, Husky brand, 5 drawers each. I think they run about $170.00. They aren't professional grade but they are strong enough for my light use. I use one for car tools and the other for household tools. It has made a big difference in the organization of my garage. I slide them both under my workbench.

Here is mine- when it isn't being used, it just slides back into line with the rest of the storage cabs.

Note the rubber top with small raised edges - it works great.

The movable versions of Lista have special locks so the drawers can't slide open by themselves (as they might if in a race trailer or on an incliine in the driveway) and each drawer is rated for 440 lbs as in the regular line.

This one has lockable, moving casters on all four corners (the norm is just two) so it can be moved around with ease and backed into the relatively tight space in which it normally lives.

Note the Hansen socket holders which will be replaced by custom ones in the future.

I have a mountain brand I got from handsontools.com (free shipping with purchace of 250, got other goodies at the same time) and added the folding saide table and the large sunex screwdriver prybar sidebox, I've been very happy with it and have no real complaints, it's not the highest quality and the rollers don't seem to like the weight but all in all not bad, I have since found the sunex with all the goodies already added for a better price at thetoolwarehouse.com, the big name mac/matco/snapon might have better bearings better paint and better casters but I don't think they justify the price unless they have the cart configuration of your dreams as they all seem to configure their cars just a bit different

Are you talking about a service cart, or a tool storage chest?

I don't have room in the garage for too many cabinets or for moving them often, so when I bought a bigger (41") set last year I sold off both my smaller chest/cabinet combo and the "project center" than I had. I did pick up a service cart for convenience of doing things out on the driveway and different points around the garage. This is similar to the one I picked up. It is handy but usefullness will depend entirely on the type of work you do and where.

Even a snap on will buckle when you lower a lift on it (trust me, ive seen it)

The snap ons use a noticably heavier gauge metal than some of the cheaper no name ones. I have used an unbranded one, and you can see how the sides flex a bit (at least with a pair of cast iron ford 302 heads)

Rubbermaid makes a plastic one that is actually pretty heavy duty (I sit on it all the time)

Line them with something like a pig mat so if your doin messy work you can flip the mat and have a clean surface to work on.

We have those at school. They're damn good. I sit on them all of the time (~260lbs), and they're really strong. I've actually sat on them with another person which would put the weight at more than 400lbs and they hold up. Top quality cart right their.

I bought mine from the Matco guy, but they are the same as the blue point ones, like David L has. Except mine only has one drawer and none of the other fancy stuff.

When i was a tech, i had a snappy service cart with 4 drawers. Now that i am out of the trade, i have a table for home use kind like the one in this thread... They are good so that you don't forget your tools under a hood or something.

That's the one I have. Sorry I don't have a picture handy. My reasoning for it was that the top is adjustable up and down and like l_bilyk pointed out, you can put your tools right over the engine. It is a little "tippy" though if over loaded...on the lowest position, it slides under my work bench...I'll try to get a photo up later. I picked it up at Checker Auto (a place like Pep Boys etc) and I think it was around $40.

I started out with one of those, they tend to get cluttered as all the tools and parts your usig have to be on that one platform, I quickly outgrew it and had to have a cart with a drawer and lower tray to save me from digging though the pile of tools that would accumulate

I think I want to buy a cart just like that one. That way i can have my sockets right there over the engine bay

Or you could just make one. And it can be as backwoods and redneck as you want!

ps... I have since put pipe insulation over the 3/4" black pipe. Works really well. Thanks to whoever suggested it.

I have a Craftsman "project center" to keep my most-used hand tools and tune-up instruments handy in my work area; saves walking back and forth from the main bench area to the lift. I think it was about $90 six years ago on sale. Also has a drop-on masonite top for doing minor bench work.

I picked up a broken paient bed table from the hosptial where I work. It had a broken wheel, no big deal but they don't repair they just throw out and replace. This is the type that looks like a "C" and the base rolls under your bed and the table is above the bed. It has a cylinder in it and adjusts up and down and has a plastic laminate top with a little drawer.

It won't hold a lot of weight but is good for holding a few tools while your under the hood. It looks like the furnture dolly one shown above.

Yeah, but it probably cost waaaaaaaaay more when it was new. Hospital equipment is crazy $$$$$ :shocking:

I was going to mention that's what I had when I read your post. Works reasonably well.
