Two suggestions. First be prepared for some tools to habitually fall out of their slots, especially when the case is opened upside down. A smidgeon cut from a refrigerator magnet superglued in place helps. Better yet make sure it is a really good tight fitted case.

Second, try and find a case that has some room for other tools. There is always something else that should be added for your particular needs.

I don't use magnets because it magnetizes the tool and I'm in an environment of heavy grinding and deburring and those slivers are not fun when you grab a tool or try to clean off magnets!

If you like 3 drawer sets in blow mold cases, I believe this is the most comprehensive set on the market today. The 268 piece Master Mechanic tool set from True Value. The tools are Apex sourced, same as current Husky and Duralast. IMG_3427.jpegIMG_3425.jpegIMG_3426.jpegIMG_3424.jpegIMG_3500.jpeg

I picked up another Craftsman tool set with case. I liked that it had so many wrenches in it and each wrench has a spot. I ditched the 3/8" dr 12 point sockets, 1/2" drive ratchet and sockets to cut down on weight. The case is not quite as sturdy as the other one I bought.
I believe it is from the late 2000's due to sockets having laser etching and no stamping, anyone know what the set number is? I looked at the 2 catalogs at archive.org but nothing matched this case.IMG_0662.JPG

I own the same set, minus the laser etched sockets. Mine are G2 and the ratchets are stamped “KAA”. I bought it from Sears in 2010 or 2011, which matches the date codes on the ratchets.

The only thing that ever struck me as odd is that the 1/2 drive metric sockets are 12 point, and the SAE are 6 point.

Jtels85, thank you posting your kit! Now I know what set I have. I think the ratchets are KU in mine. I don't get the 1/2" sockets being 6 and 12 point either, odd:unsure:

The 1/2"drive sockets are in the red circle, the metrics are 12 point and the sae are 6 point. All the other sockets in the bottom section are 3/8"dr and the 3/8" drive deep sockets are in the yellow circleIMG_5346.jpeg

What I've learned since using these two Craftsmen sets.

If given a choice, get a Craftsman case with the red circular latch(top pic). They hold the tools better and the case itself is designed to hold it's shape and not as flexible as the case like the one I bought that relies on a friction fit and flimsy plastic latch(2nd pic). Spilled all the wrenches and sockets once! Pisses you off when in a hurry!

I don't like the G2 made sockets with the notches on the drive end and I don't like the laser etched sockets with no stamping.

Other than that I'm pleased with the kitsIMG_0535.JPGIMG_0662.JPG
