I've used this TP tools setup for the past 2 yrs with no problems for auto restoration work - painting, sandblasting and other air tools:

Also, I followed the guides for air pipe installation (about 60' of metal pipe from compressor to regulator, pipe sloped to drain, air pulled off top of pipe, etc.). The layout seems to remove most of the water before it gets to the separator.

Is anyone using this setup? I'm considering buying this for my shop...uses will be general air tools, some blasting, and eventually painting the actual car I'm working on. Will this satisfy the needs of clean air or is there a better option for equal or less money?

I think this setup would work well for you. The filter is a Motorguard unit that uses the replaceable “toilet paper roll”. I have a similar filter/regulator setup that I put together from parts that I had on hand and added the Motorguard filter. I never have any moisture problems when painting or running my blast cabinet, even in the humid summer months. The filter elements can be dried out in the sun and re-used almost indefinitely.

I do use a small disposable desiccant filter on the paint gun for cheap insurance.

+1 on the TP Tools piping design. I plumbed my shop with copper using their design and the bulk of the moisture never reaches the filter/regulator bank.

I have those setups on all the drops in my garage. They have worked well for over 15 years.n Buy some extra filters. Also look at the complete kits with the 1/2 inch drops.

Thanks for the responses. I have roughly 50-60 ft of aluminum pipe before the drops so I am hoping with the pipe and filters I'll be water free.
