Troyke Rotary Table

I bought this rotary table at an auction, I'm super impressed with it's quality and how smooth it operates.
This thing is a real beast, I can hardly lift it onto the table.
Does anyone know what type of oil it takes and how much ?

600W steam cylinder oil. Unfortunately it usually comes in 5 gal pails.

If you do use a gear oil, make absolutely sure its brass safe so you don't destroy the worm gear

There are some on ebay that break down pails into smaller amounts.

Check practicalmachinist.com They say Troyke recommends Vactra #2, which you should have in hand if you need a Rotab. I’ve also seen threads recommend moly grease.

I was going to suggest Vactra #2 without doing any research. It has ways, bearings and a worm so Vactra should be good for all of those things.

Vactra #2 works almost everywhere; it's safe for yellow metals (brass/bronze bearings, etc). I use it on the headstock and carriage on my 15" YMZ lathe, and on the Bridgeport way pressure oiler. The only reason to use something heavier is to slow down leakage. I use 600W steam cylinder oil on non-condensing steam engines. It's a compounded oil - a heavy mineral oil plus a few percent lard oil. This makes it very resistant to washing off in wet environments, which certainly describes a steam engine. However, it's very difficult to remove from condensate, so condensing engines usually run a pure mineral oil which is more easily separated.

Amen to the hydraulic table. I have an old 12” Kearney Trecker rotary table that will make your voice change if you try lifting it.

My mill came with a heavy steel shelf on the RHS. I was never 100% sure what it was designed for, but I assumed it was for a rotary table. You can move the table very close to it to slide heavy tooling back and forth. Old pic after a paint job:

You need to sort the chaff from the wheat. Most on practicalmachinist recommend 600w as does troyke itself.
