Truss help

Solo builder here. Asking advice on what to do. I am strapped on time with delay after delay with concrete pad initially and then my trusses were two weeks late. I put 95% of them up. As I put up my last scissor truss before the gable end went on I noticed the truss was off quite badly. I had a few trusses that need to get shaved down and get scabbed. The truss company sent me a repair order to show the inspector what was done and they approved it.

Now. My last scissor truss is about 1-1/2” off center with the peak and about 1-1/4” too high at the peak. At the base it’s a bit narrower than the others.

They can either rebuild the entire roof and have new trusses here on Friday which means I’m losing yet another week of work. Or I can hack up the last one to try to make it work.

They will pay for a crew to take my trusses down and install the new ones but I have to find them. I also have no clue if they will do a good job and in a rush to be done this next week.

What would you guys do? It’s a toss up for me. I need to get this place dried in asap as we have a baby coming and will have to head back to the city in our apartment until I can get this place finished up for us to move in the spring.

I agree. So many issues here. But trying to move forward. One of the mending plates wasnt even installed on one of the trusses heels. I will ask.

maybe you can build onsite that end gable , since there's full framed wall below it you should be able to stick frame it to match what you need without engineering involved

You’re going to live there for 30 years. Take a little time up front to get it right.

The gable wall isn’t the issue. It’s the second scissor truss in that’s the issue. I put up the gable wall. The peak is off quite bad on the second truss in.

As long as the gable is correct, you should be able to layout the roof sheathing w/o issue on both roof planes. Can you start sheathing from the far end but not block the removal of the bad truss?

If yes, get all of the sheathing up there, install all that you can and leave the last several sheets up there secured to nailers. Slide them over towards the gable end once truss replaced/modified.
Possibly even the same for tar paper or whatever you plan to use.

Another thought......can you modify that bad truss in place and temporarily scab it together with plywood and structural screws? You have the other trusses to measure off of/use as template - both dimensions and locations can be transferred. (Looks like the righthand rafter is too long as best I can tell with the 1 pic.)
Place 2x4s on the rafters from 2 good trusses spanning over to the gable and use them to secure your new lumber as you modify existing. Let the truss company detail that repair doc and provide all of the nail plates, etc.

I think I'd shoot a laser on that top chord that's up proud of the rest and trim it off with a circular saw. Then sister it for strength.

Sometimes you can flip it around (there all off and one got flipped at the factory or onsite.) You should be able to measure at the top plate each way, with a plumb bob hanging from the peak. Good luck

I looked over the pics and reread your post several times and am not clear on the issues. Are there 2 trusses that are off? You say the high one is second from the end but the pics with the level look like it is the end one. For the one that is too high is it too high only in the center? You could trim off a bit of the bottom where it sits on the wall and doesn't look like it would affect the strength. But trimming and shimming all this is going to be a real pain. That's the only choice I see other than having them replace them. Think I would go with replacement. Do truss companies make a pattern/layout and build them all off that layout or could they make a couple that match the rest of what you have and just have to replace a couple? Since the truss company screwed these up I doubt they could but more asking about how a good company would do it...
