Thinking through the twin cylinder idea, it seems that in the space taken by two small cylinders one larger one with much more plunger area might be more efficient at lifting the load.
Does a larger capacity jack require less effort on smaller loads than a smaller capacity jack assuming capacity is based on cylinder size?
Like a master cylinder, the smaller the bore, the less fluid it moves. Meaning it will take less force, but more travel. In a brake lever, that would mean it would have a soft feel, but the lever would have to be moved further.
In a jack, it would mean easier to lift a vehicle, but it would take more pumps. So a quick lift lever would have a larger bore to move the jack further per pump, but it would take way more force to actually lift the vehicle. That’s probably done with leverage, ie, the longer handle.
My jack would be much easier to use if it had a smaller bore.
