Underground receptacle?

Has anyone put in an underground receptacle? Similar to a vault, like is used in utilities. I'm needing to do this to power my sewage grinder pump for the shop. I've got conduit in place, was just wondering if anyone has done this and how they accomplished it. No inspections will be taking place, but I want it to be safe and not cause any issues.

I have done it a few hundred times. our conditions are different than yours as we are a utility. you have to use weather tight boxes and wet in use covers. gfi protection is mandatory. mount as high is possible in the vault. you will have to provide some kind of isolation from explosive gasses. we often use hard wired pumps to boxes and then mount a disconnect remotely to avoid the classified area problems. to be legal you may have to use a seal off to prevent gas intrusion into the rest of the system. much of the design aspect has to do with the specifics of the vault.

Not sure of the setup you have for a vault but sewage is very corrosive. If it were me I would order your pump with a long cord and sleeve the wire through the conduit you already have. Also are there going to be level floats in the vault for control. If so you may need to have a controller. I would not put a receptacle in the pit.

Thanks for the replies. I found a grease trap at a local ReStore type place for $40, which I will seal the inlet and outlet shut, and use as a small utility vault. It has a latching lid with seal. Legal? Probably not, but it should do the trick.

is there a reason why you cant install the outlet above ground like you would with a sump pump?

I'm not quite understanding this...are you putting the pump inside the vault as well, or is it just a place for the electrical connections to be made?
