After my Granddad passed in '23, I've been slowly organizing tools and getting an organized shop. However, my shop's actual toolbox (a 27" Craftsman from the '90s) is virtually destroyed. My Dad used the shop for years, and tended to break a lot of my Granaddad's stuff. He had overloaded the bottom drawers (as well as one of the top) with parts taken off of a motorcycle, and it mangled the bent steel attachment points for the drawers. Besides, I don't like the drawer layout at all (all shallow or deep--nothing in-between), and of course, no ball-bearing slides. Also, the quality of this box is worse than my Granddad's older Craftsman boxes of roughly '80s vintage. The one in the garage also has drawers that won't stay in, but at least that's fixable with five bucks in spring steel clips that attach the drawers to the slides.

Noticed Harbor Freight has a 27" US General that is taller and has a better drawer layout than the old Craftsman, and at $350, it's in budget. Plus, I can continue to use my old top box on the old roll cab.

(Alternatively, I'd like an older, preferably larger Mac, Snap-On, or Matco set--even if it's friction slides, as long as I can get it under $500). I hate to deal with Facebook, but it seems Facebook Marketplace is where most people are finding stuff these days.

I'm planning on how stuff will be stored in it, and am wondering how those who have one have organized theirs. Been using a lot of the US General racks lately, and they don't play well with shallow drawers. The deeper drawers in all but my basement stack (which remains near-minty due to light use--but is also the most organized) are the ones with the most problems.

PS: I'm going to try to still fix the old Craftsman, and convert it into a service cart with a butcher block top and mounted vise. May end up just using the slot where the broken drawer resided for bulk storage of tools in cases.
