I figured we should at least discuss the reasons behind the low prices of used SK tools.

For example, eBay has hundreds of ratchets for around $15-20 shipped. 3/4" are around $40.

I'm not talking abused or damaged stuff either.

Why though?

Like 3 Bay said, but they have gone up in price since Ideal took over and started honoring the warranty. I picked a few things while SK was Bankrupt for dirt cheap. I assume they are only going to increase, just not Snap On prices.

SK was never a super expensive tool company. About half way between craftsman and SO. Also as far as ratchets go, they made a **** ton of basically the same ratchet for 60 years. So say you consider $40 a good price for a used SO, then $15-$20 for a comparable SK is about right.

Because you can buy a shiny new 45170 ratchet in the $40 range, so who is going to pay more than a forgettable $15'ish dollars for a used one off of ebay? i think the last set of metric sockets i bought from them were around $80 or so new, so when new price isnt much, used price has to be pretty considerably low to sway someone to buy them.

Supply and demand. S-K has always been readily available in Auto parts and hardware stores. I think this availability, combined with fear over the previous bankruptcy, has made used S-K tools inexpensive.

I just wish I had purchased more of them before the turn-around ...
