Found this board by accident - but I'm glad I did - so many good ideas.

Here is my garage project - its a 50x30 4 bay witha two story shed-type roof.

I'm building my own swing out carriage-house doors for the (1) 10 x9 and (3) 9x9 openings. We started this on 15 Oct 2008 and the Tyvek photos were just yesterday 20 Dec. Next phase is a concrete 3 foot apron in front with ACO zipper drains.

Enjoy

Wow! Great looking house and garage project!

Where are you located in VA? There are many of us here from the NOVA area who have started meeting.

Thanks much -- I'm in Fairfax Station - right next to Fountainhead Park off Hampton Road.
I have been planning this for over 6 years now, with the intent to close off our existing 3 car garage so I can make a lab/office, and use this new 4 "attached" garage for the cars and a wood/metal shop. This spring I'm building a "Mini-Me" garden shed clone of the garage for garden tools etc.

Best

Thanks E-Tek - the garage can't slide down the hill cuz the hill is gone now :)

First thing we did was cut out the hill so the garage sits on flat undisturbed earth. Also, three foot wide footers and No 5 bar 8 OC in the rear wall (7 foot unbalanced fill) will keep the walls from moving. But you are right - that hill was an engineering problem that the code folks wanted addressed. I'll post more pics as I move towards finishing.

Thanks
Jim

Great area. I used to boat alot at fountainhead after college...loved the rope swing that is long gone...I'm looking at building the same size over in Great Falls after our home reno is done. How big is your lot?
