vapor barrier thickness and prices

Ive searched and cant find what i want. its for a 36x56 pole barn with a 6in floor. My base is 6in to 2ft of concrete wash out. Do i need vapor barier? And what thickness? Can i use plastic sheathing? My concrete guys thinks its not needed. I want to seal the floor if money permits. Thanks guys.

If you ever want to coat the floor later on a vapor barrier is imperative.
It can't be added later and all concrete guys hate them because it's more work.

6-8 mil polyethylene sheeting, seams should be overlapped by 12" and duct taped. Thicker the better so it don't cut over the stones. Oversee this so they don't throw it in the truck and leave you high and not dry.

first off, id be worried about that diluted washout as a base material.
if you decide to go that route, lay the steel to it.
6 mil is fine for barrier but i dont think it needs it.
might wanna put sand between the two layers for separation.
and after they finish it, id spray it with cure and seal.

As LegacyIndustrial said, a vapor barrier is required if you intend to coat the floor and is good practice even if you don't. It shouldn't cost more than a few cents a square foot and you could easily install it yourself. It's cheap insurance.

If the washout sub base is rough, you should use at least a 10 mil poly so it isn't punctured by foot traffic.

If you are using rebar or mesh, put it on supports. Pulling it up with come-alongs doesn't work and will damage the vapor barrier.
