Search defaults to "and", so snap-on truck should not give you results containing just one of the search words. What confuses this is that by default is shows the entire thread. Change to "show results as posts" to make it a bit more useful. If not, a thread that contains snap-on in post #1 and truck in post #454 will show up.
As for phrases, not that I'm aware of. Easiest thing to do is use google:
