I'm gonna forego reading the buzillion threads on the subject of flooring options (A.D.D.dddddbbboring) and just ask which I should go with . Here's what I got. My wifes 24x14 basement pantry,bare power trowelled concrete floor with finished sheetrock walls. Obviously power washing is not an option and anything other than wet moping would have to be done with the utmost care not to get the sheet rock wet. I know prep is key to adhesion in the epoxy systems but are all the grinding,acid etching and power washing needed for light foot traffic? Also the concrete was not saw cut so it has spidering hairline cracks that I'm assuming would need addressed in the epoxy scenerio. Should I just go with the vct (my choice) and avoid all the epoxy (her choice) hassles???? Thanks

How about gluing a layer of 1/8 to 1/4 inch sub-flooring down and then putting down the VCT?

I used VCT with epoxy on it. Looks good no stripping or rewaxing

You should do whatever your wife likes. Trust me, that's the best way to go!!
She's basing her opinion on some floors her parents done in their basement using the cheapest Rust-oleum product. So in her mind because they did it themselves and did it cheaply it must be just fine. It just looks like a painted floor to me and time will tell how well it holds up. I don't know how much prep went into it,but I'm bettin not much. Granted we are only doing a pantry that few people will see but I want a durable floor that wont require re-doing afew years down the road. I can achieve that with VCT and minimal prep work. Epoxy and minimal prep?????
