Who, other than experts, would you like to reply?
I'm no fan of epoxy. I am a pretty big fan of the very giving, non pushy vendors who responded.

Are you really protesting?

I see your point cash68... I've kind of thought the same thing.

But..

  • Just because the vendor replies, doesn't mean their product is any good, or that they know what they are talking about.
  • You can say the same thing about nearly anybody here that posts on your thread.

You never know if the person responding is knowledgeable, or is a 13 year old troll in their parents basement.

Such is the nature of the beast.

Hi, I started a thread here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=356377

So far, the only people who have responded are vendors trying to sell their products. I get it. They have nice products, that's awesome. It's also great to hear them chime in.

But when literally ALL the replies are from vendors, and nobody else is posting, that seems kind of screwed up.

Thoughts?

I can see your point but your question did sort of look for a response from that of a vendor. Other may still offer advise from what they have used to do the same thing.

Looked to me that the vendor did a pretty good job of educating you about a product that was not recommended for the use you were suggesting.
Epoxy seems to be so specialized that information from the vendor's seems the most reliable in my estimation.

If you ask for information about a timing belt and a representative from the Gates Company answered your question, would you have the same response?

I know nothing about garage epoxy coatings, but wanted to chime in since you are feeling neglected by the unwashed masses. ;)

Yep, I was just about to say that. I know nothing about floor finishes. The only thing i know about floors is when I walk into a business and almost slip on their floors because the manager is too idiotic to buy some floor stripper to periodically strip the floors of all the soap/chemicals.

"Give me some ice skates here, pal".

The replies from the vendors / experts seemed very appropriate to me. If I was looking to do my floor I'd welcome their input on their products...

If I was asking a question, I would hope that some one who knows that product would be the ones to reply, and who better to answer your questions then the venders who know the products and know who to contact if they don't...

I get what you are feeling. It annoys me at times as well... And at other times I appreciate some of the vendors. It's a tough call.

No, the response from vendors is awesome, but when you literally only get vendors talking to you, each one pushing their product, and there is literally no way to crossshop what they offer because there has been no testing whatsoever, it really makes you wonder.

Personally I value the opinion of someone who has used multiple products and tells me what they think, when they aren't selling something > people trying to sell me things.
