What do I need to replace the hydraulics on a HF Engine Hoist?

The hydraulic cylinder on my 1-ton engine hoist (part number 93840) has failed. It sinks constantly under load and the rate that it's sinking is increasing rapidly. Given that it's lasted about 3 years in professional duty, I've more than gotten my money's worth.

I'd like to just replace the hydraulic cylinder with something of a higher quality as the frame is soldiering on just fine. Is this possible? What specs matter? Any suggestions?

You could just replace the ram with another HF unit for $40.00. If it lasts another three years that's less than $14 per year, an insignificant expense in a business environment.

I put one of their 8T air/hydraulic rams on my Carolina hoist and like it. To date, I've only used it to pull some shrubs out of the ground but it works really well.

Have you added new fluid to it?

If adding a bit of fluid doesn't help, take it apart and take some pictures, nothing magic about the insides of a cylinder so likely parts once identified and measured can easily be replaced.
