vintage bench grinder help

ive had this old bench grinder for years now, it was my grandfathers and i really need to find a new grinding wheel for it can anyone help?

what size grinding wheel is it supposed to have? A new wheel shouldn't be too hard to find, nor too costly. Ken.

not sure like 3-4 inch ill measure tommorow, but they come on the metal rod then you slide them onto the shaft (lol) you recken i can get that?

Are you sure that that is a grinder? Looks to me like the head off an old lathe?
Interesting piece, have never heard of that Ritter Brand.

That's a polishing lathe, often used by jewelers and dental labs.

The ones I've seen have a chuck that fits over a tapered spindle. The wheels can be purchased already attached to the chuck or can be swapped out on the chuck itself.

Yours sure looks to have a similar arrangement but since it's from Germany and seemingly quite old so it's hard to say what you'll have to do to make it work.

The wheel you'll need will likely be made for a very small arbor. I'd take the wheel off the chuck and see what size arbor the wheel is made for. Hopefully you can find something from a jeweler or lapidary supply place.

Take the old wheel off
Measure the center hole in the wheel
Look for a grinding wheel of about 3" od and whatever Id you have

My grandpa was a dentist/machinist so iv got loads of old dental tools I use for picks, I'll measure the wheel, where's a good place to buy grinding wheels?
