I have the chance to buy one for 10 bucks in pretty bad cosmetic shape. It is a 283.150400. Here's a link to one.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Craftsman-115VAC-Diaphragm-Paint-Sprayer-283-150400-/370975619672

I'm looking for a project and this seems fun, does anybody know if they are usable these days or if I'll sink money into gaskets or anything? I don't have an air compressor and is this a viable option to paint small things with?

I didn't know what It was when I first saw it so Im pretty much looking for any info I can get. Thanks!

Doubtful that you can get parts. It would be great for an airbrush. I had one back in the late 1960s. I would recommend finding something with a tank.

Thanks! I'm looking at a real compressor for air tools but I think I might get this for the coolness factor and to mess with.

You will need a bleeder type gun, so look on eBay. Not sure how many are still around. I had a Thomas Industries diaphragm that I bought from Spiegel in 1970. A friend borrowed it and actually painted a truck with it.

Wow, never new they could be used for big projects. I can find a couple spray guns on eBay, so I'll give it a try. The tag says tested, so I know the motor at least works

I have a Campbell Hausfeld Powerpal Portable Air Compressor. It's a nice little tankless compressor (even if it is a little loud). I used to use it for inflating tires, and a little airbrushing, but now it only gets used to blow out the pipes when I close up my house and the camp for the winter.

Sadly, this model is discontinued. But they should be out there on the used market.

Here is a picture of one (not mine).

The one I'm looking at is covered in over spray, so I'll take it down to bare metal and polish.

Its pretty beat up but I really need another project besides cleaning right now!

Interesting about the nail guns. I remember seeing a large airless one on craigslist for framing nailers. I don't see the need but reading up on them they're pretty interesting
