I can get these two for a good deal I am thinking. I can get the planer for $20 and the jointer for $30 and the stands for an extra $20. There is some surface rust but not too bad and the blades spin.
If new blades are needed are they readily available? The problem is I don't need them, but want and need always fight with each other an I am running out of room. I am thinking maybe grab them and sell them or trade for something I want like another vise. Are these highly regarded or just so so?

That planer is often referred to as an 'alien head'. If you search on that name online you'll find a lot more information, they fairly desirable. The jointer is a good tool as well. For those prices I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

What Stuart said, get them and sort it out later. The planer usually goes for good money on ebay and the jointer is the deluxe model. I'd be all on those.

Marty - I picked up one of those alien head planers last summer. Like you, it wasn't something I needed, but for $15 it was just too cool to leave behind. I haven't gotten around to restoring it yet, I'm still trying to find a rattle can that matches the original color. That one is in better condition and has a stand and motor. Go for it, you'll have the coolest shop on your block.
It's all about Want. Need has nothing to do with it.

Bluebolt - Thanks for the link. I just ordered some to put away until I get around to doing the restore. I hope they fit.
