Vintage tool help

Hello,

I just joined because it seemed every time I attempted to look up information on a tool this forum would pop up. So apparently you guys are the some of the best. I bought my great grandfather's house from my uncle because of the garage. My great grandfather was a incredible mechanic. I am a welder and know nothing about old tools. I recently started my own metal work business and decided rather than let his tools sit I would sell them to people who truly appreciate them. I was able to sell the complete sets quickly of course. I had several craftsman BE and circle H socket sets as well as Bonney/SK ect. I now have a lot of 40+ misc tools from manufacturers Bonney forge/Dunlap/Frank Mossberg/JH Williams/Blue Point (now snap-on)/Herbrand/Fairmount Cleveland/Craftsman/Vlchek/DuroChrome/Moore drop forge/Utica/BemisandCall/Osborne/Proto/Oxywell or something similar/Billings and Spencer. I also have 20+ tools that I can't identify. Any suggestions on how to identify them or the best way to sell them would be greatly appreciated! I haven't even gotten around to all the tools yet. I'm not trying to pedal these & make big money. As I said earlier I would like to see them go to people who truly appreciate these pieces as much as he did! Any money I make is just buying tools for my little shop. Any suggestions or information is very much appreciated.

Hi, Mike,

Welcome aboard and yes, you came to the right place for advice.

Getting an identification is as easy as posting a photo. Those here have seldom been stumped.

You'll get recommendations on using the classifieds here to sell your tools. The only downside is there it is incumbent upon you to put a price on them. Use eBay and the market will tell you what it's actually worth; but then you get 10% less by the time the fees all add up. Either way works.

Since craigslist is free, consider a well-photo-described garage sale. That will move a lot of the loose stuff quickly. The real plus is you don't have to pack and ship.

Good advice Packard. Mikey first off where are you located? Maybe include some of your particulars in your GJ bio. You can list the tools here for starters. I realize you need 100 posts before you are allowed too. But by posting the pics of the tools you want identified you will make short work of the imposed quota. There are a few blogs that you can post that take no time at all. One to do with consecutive #s and another for the first word that comes into your mind. But most here would love to see some photos of your Grandfather's tools. I have some of my Grampa's tools but they aren't for sale.

I'll echo the earlier welcomes and second the recommendation to start posting photos. Most guys here are eager to help and you will get immediate results.

One quick clarification for you on this bit...

Blue Point (now snap-on)

Snap-On did not succeed/replace Blue-Point. They were co-existing brands for different types of tools (Snap-On primarily socket drive tools; Blue-Point primarily wrenches and striking tools) from the 1920's on.

Maybe not worthless but it would help.
Try a practice pic or two it took most of us awhile but worth it once it was mastered.
I place them in a file, then transfer them. I don't get the huge pic like some individuals but viewable. Now when I do it I get a file but no pic. The file is openable but not as cool as a visible pic. Something I will work on.
