Vintage USA Tool Chest / Box

Hi all!

This is my first time in a forum! I need your help, please.

I have this tool chest with a mostly deleted gold "stamp" in the middle of the last drawer. All I can make out is : 129 Lafayette St, New York, NY.

Also, screwed (not glued) on the top of the chest, in very large gold letters, the initials JVS.

Does anyone know how I can find the name of the company that built the chest? Or any other info like age, style...

I am very hesitant to repair and refinish it until I get more info. If it is "valuable", I will still keep it but will have a professional do it .

First welcome.

Second, sorry to say not valuable. Gerstner machinist chests commands the most money and this I doubt is Gerstner. My guess is that Park made the box.

I'd suspect "JVS" is likely the owner's initials.

That one has lived a hard life!

Whatever you do, don't throw it out. My wife goes nuts over chests like that because they are perfect for a "shabby chic" make-over. If you can stabilize it so it doesn't fall apart any more than it has, it has resell value to the decorating crowd. Good luck!

it may not be restored to perfect, but i bet it could be brought back to useable.

yeah, my first thought was a sharto or sipco.

Definitely a George Scheer, you can tell by the address if nothing else. The letters were probably the former owner's initials, added to help identify. Is it a family member, grandpa or someone?

I am restoring a George Sheer right now, so this could be pretty interesting.
