When my grandfather died a while back he left me everything in his shop. Many vintage tools that I still use and will probably out live me. This however I'm having an issue with, black and decker worm drive saw and I cant find a replacement blade or an adapter to at least fit a modern blade with a diamond shaped arbor. Does anyone have an idea what I can do besides replace the saw?

Find a local sharpening service and get the blade resharpened. Thats how they did it BITD

You can ReSharper modern blades instead of replacing them also, it just might be cost prohibitive depending on the blade and application

They were meant to be either sharpened and or replaced. The problem is that they no longer do that style of arbor no more and it's precisely why I got rid of my B&D saw just like yours. You could have a machine shop convert your arbor to the diamond profile and then have access to modern blades too, but then it's not original. What size blades does it take? 7 1/4? 8 1/4? 10 inch? I ask because 10 inch with the modern blades you can go diamond arbor or round with certain blade profiles. The lower teeth counts are round arbor (5/8 inch) and have a diamond arbor knock out just like the smaller blades whereas that higher tooth count 10 inch blades are round arbor only.

i looked and couldnt find any with that style hole
its just a good working saw, i might go the machine shop route then. thanks man.

The double flat seems to be on the washer, not on the saw. Modern round arbor blades are not keyed. What size is the arbor on the saw? If it is undersize you can probably get a bushing to bring it up to size and a flat washer from any modern saw and you can mount a modern blade.

That's not the washer. That is the piece that goes into the saw that has splines on the inside. Its the arborthat holds the blade
OK, Thanks. What size is the washer with the one flat that keys to the spline? As I said before what happens if the new blade hole is just round and has no flat? Modern hand and table saw blades are just held by friction. I guess it is a problem if the size is off

Take the arbor adaptor and a modern diamond-knockout blade to a machinist and ask him if he can make the arbor adaptor fit a modern blade. Hell, if it were mine I'd do it myself with a vise and an angle grinder and a few of my choice Nicholson files--but I have the skills to do it. That old saw has a lot of life left in it yet, and it was your Grandpa's!!
Yeah, I was thinking about just getting out the angle grinder and making it fit. It having been my grandpas is the reason why I don't want to just replace it!!

Talk with your local sharpening service. They may have some ideas or even some blades that will fit.
It might be as simple as boring a round hole in the blade to fit over the arbor instead of modifying the saw.
I certainly wouldn't get rid of the saw.

Actually, BITD you would usually sharpen them yourself with a file.
Modern blades are not always keyed in any way. A blade with the same size arbor hole, without the flats would fit. It remains to be seen how bad it would slip. What size is that arbor hole, measured across the round part? A normal round arbor is 5/8".
