Vinyl siding vs cedar siding

Depends on where you are at and what the condition of the cedar siding is in. If the cedar is in decent shape and you don't have much vinyl siding around you, then it will likely lower the value.

If the cedar is in good condition and well taken care of, it will bring a higher resale value than vinyl siding. If the person buying the house is interested in less maintenance, then vinyl will be a more attractive alternative to them. All wood sidings require a lot of maintenance, and that equates to $$$$. I have never seen a vinyl sided house that looked better than a wooden sided house that was in pristine condition. I had a wood sided house, and after 20 years maintenance, covered it with vinyl. It would have been less expensive when I built to use vinyl, and to have changed it every 15 years than the cost of preserving the wood every 3rd year to keep it looking good. If you don't mind the expense, wood is the way to go, but vinyl will save you money over the lifetime that you live in the home.
Like was mentioned, before it's where you live. Vinyl in my neck of the woods is definitly low class. Sorry but that's the way it is. It's usually associated with bad remodels or mobile homes.
