Wall mounted vacuum?? I think I need one, please discuss the pros and cons of said vacuums. I saw one in the new Craftsman catalog for $99. I just have an old wet-dry vac now, and want something new. Thanks

The one I saw at home depot sat on a wire frame and it looked like it was pretty easy to pick up and move around.

How about like a whole garage vacuum, modeled after a whole house vacuum? Do they make those?

I think a whole house vacuum system is a little above the bar for my garage. I'm trying to stay around $100-150. I really like the idea of it being up out of the way though. I just don't know enough about them to make an informed choice.

Do you know if this one is somehow attached to the rack, or can it be pulled off by overextending the hose?? It looks as if it fulfills the need of being up out of the way!

They actually sell that "mount" seperately as an accessory for the normal vac. It is basically just a shelf and the vac is in no way permanently attached to it. You can just lift the vacuum and hose off and take it wherever you want.

I went with a central vac intended for a 4000sqft home I chose the Eureka Boss found it new on Ebay at a good price. I then went to sears and picked up 2 11' 1/4 hose, coupler, car attachments and their basket organizer for the Craftsman shop VAC.

all that I can say about the setup is that ...THE THING *****! Very happy and it is color coordinated with the rest of the garage

We had some ports installed into the garage when the whole-house system was going in, and it works GREAT. Ours is a Vacuflo, and the fact that it vents outside is priceless. I wouldn't use it for wet / funky stuff, but we still have a standard shop vac for that (haven't fired it up for 2 years now ;-)

How much are these whole house vacuums anyway? Can you installed them in an attic, out of the way?

I did a google search and found this: Hoover L2310 GUV . I don't know how to post the link, but it appears to be a lot like I'm looking for. Anybody got one or know anything about them/it. Thanks

$200-700 depending on what you want to spend. I am not sure I would put it in an atic. It would be a pain in the rear to empty the thing all though the bucket is pretty big and can take a lot of trash before emptying.

I looked at the GUV and I wanted something a little more powerful.

I have the Craftsman wall mount shop-vac. It attaches to the wall in a plastic carrier and can be removed easily for carry-around use. It comes with about 21' of hose and misc. attachments. Works great!

Previously I used a regular rolling shop-vac and compared to that, the wall mount is way better for garage use. I do plan to buy more hose, but right out of the box, it works great.

We have a vacumaid system that serves the house as well as the garage. I used to think the bucket was pretty big until we got a dog. Now it fills up with black lab pretty quickly! I agree that the attic would be a poor choice.

I have the craftsman wall mount you are looking at. it easily detachs from the wall bracket and is very portable. With the longer hose though it isn't often I need to dismount it. Suction is good much better than my in-laws built in house vac.
I have noticed that Lowes sells a similarmodel in the shop=vac brand that seemed to be cheaper, might be worth checking out.

I have the Shop-Vac Wall Mate which looks like the shape of the built-ins shown above. Yellow canister, 4.5hp  18' 1 1/2" hose, etc. It works OK but I grab the 6hp, 16 gal one every time if it's in the garage! The difference is HUGE between the two. A lot of the difference is the 2" hose on the bigger unit.

Would I get another wall mount.......................maybe if the power is good enough and you could put a 2- 2 1/2" hose on it!

Oh yea, and just so you know, the Krylon Fusion plastic paint works wonders changing a yellow canister to red so that it matches everything else in the garage! :3gears:

Thanks to everybody for their comments and input....................I went and bought the Craftsman Wall Vac for $99. It seems to fill most of my needs. The major factors were the 5hp, and wet/dry capability. Again, thanks to all.
