Ive got an emerson electronic air cleaner unit in the return air in the machine shop part of the big shop. The directions say to emerse the element in a pan of warm water with 4 oz/gal of dish washer soap for 1/2 hr,then rinse with a hose and stand on end to air dry.The element is just the ionizing plates and wires,so my question is why not just run it in the dish washer with a double load of soap?

tmax,
I have done exactly that with mine, though I usually just stick it in the wash tub in the garage filled with hot water and some Cascade mixed in.

Doesnt look like many people here have them! I put it in because it will supply warm air to a "clean room" for engine assembly, and my wifes sewing/stained glass room.Guess I'll throw it in the dishwasher!

If it has aluminum in it the dishwasher will kill it.

I washed the burner plates of my kitchen stove in the dishwasher. They were raw aluminum and when they came out it looked like they had been sitting in salt water for 10 years.
Was about to clean them up with a wire brush and then VHT paint on them, but won't do that again.

One of my cooking sheets is aluminum and it says NO dishwasher on it, probably for same reason.

.

Nate,
Mine is almost all aluminum and the instructions tell you to use a dishwashing detergent such as Cascade to clean it. I also have some aluminum cookware that always goes in the dishwasher ..... never had an issue, come out spotless.

I have done several different methods of cleaning my air cleaners for my house. If it is nice out side, I will hose them down to get all the big stuff off the spray 409 cleaner on it to the point that my hand hurts from squeezing the trigger so much and then I would let it sit for a bit. Then hose it off and let it air dry and re install.

Now, if it is in the middle of the winter, I will put them in the dishwasher and clean them that way.

So really either way will work.
