One thing I notice and find ironic is that every company makes a Rolex Sub copy and everyone buys it and thinks it's the best thing they've ever bought. I just don't get it. Drivers are more popular with non drivers. The watch world is pretty weird. Personally I can't stand drivers, monsters, g-shocks. I'd take a day/date and be done with it already.

I gave up wearing a watch when I started carrying a cell phone.

Besides, I have a BIG problem with watches. If they have a continuous bracelet (which I like), from the factory, the bracelet is generally not large enough for my wrist, even on the largest setting. The last 2 watches had to have 3 or 4 links ADDED (a pain, because the jeweler had to special order them from the factory).

A friend who is into martial arts was freaked out because he could not do a wrist hold on my oversized wrist !

Most dive watches are not homages (copies) of the Submariner. Rolex spawned an entire category of watches with it, but the similarities usually end there. Everyone puts their own spin on what a dive watch should be, and has their own interpretation of it.

It's true that people who don't dive wear dive watches. Many people who are not professional mechanics turn Snap-On wrenches too. People wear dive watches because they like the look and feel and the rugged, sturdy build compared to other watch types.

I guess I just don't get buying something as a tool and not using it. Same thing with the guys that horde a million different color screwdrivers and what not on here. Don't need a watch that has more than date/time on it and I'm sure most people don't need a Barometer, Alt, 14 chronos, etc..

Diver watches have a rotating bezel that allows you to set a primitive timer, assuming you want an analog dial. I never liked having a digital watch so I'm the perfect candidate. That timer is very useful for things like parking meters and any time you want to measure the duration of something. It is also good for remembering the start time of something. I use it when I go for a walk (exercise walk, that is) to time myself.

I've owned several Rolex watches and never hesitated to wrench while wearing them or felt the need to baby them. Sure they accumulate some scratches but that's the fun in owning them. I've owned many watches in my lifetime and the cheaper ones usually never lasted that long(mainly Timex IronMan watches). I have heard that the Casio G-Shock watches are supposed to be good and they have quite a Cult following.

That's my position about it. I talked to my local Rolex guy and he said I could get oil/****** fluid all over it without a problem. I watched the vid on the rolex website and the stainless is suppose to be super hard so much so they had to re-tool the factories machines to work with it.
I'd like to get a Milgas ideally. Everyone has a effin sub.

What's your budget? Tough to beat a G-Shock, unless you need a flashy watch for work or image.

Yeah, everyone has a Sub because they are iconic. I've owned one Sub and a few Datejust models. I sold the Sub for comfort reasons. Personally nothing beats the comfort of a Datejust. Below are pics of my last two watches.

The only watch I own and wear is a Sub, and it's nice to have one watch that is durable and looks decent no matter when/where you're wearing it. The look is classic, and no matter how common they are, they still look cool without being gawdy. The only other watch I'd like would be a Daytona. Being just my luck, the jewelry store I bought my Sub got a new stainless Daytona a couple weeks after I bought mine. They gave me first dibs, I went to check it out, but couldn't justify spending that money after I just got a Sub. The Daytona was nice, but I actually like the bezel on the Sub a bit better, and didn't like how flat the Daytona looked. May be nice when wearing it under a driver's suit, but what's the point of wearing a Rolex when racing, anyway?

The stainless on mine has scratched some, and have a very small nick on magnifier over the date, but otherwise the lens looks brand new. I guess they can polish the stainless when I send it in for service, so I guess the scratches aren't a big deal. I'm impressed for how often I wear it and abuse it.

Rolex datejust is my dream watch. I told my wife I wanted one for my 30th birthday. I turn 30 in July, so I don't think I'm getting it, lol :( But I will have one some day.

Take your watch off and strap it on your belt or put it in your pocket when you are wrendhing - that's what I do with my daily watch. Hit the crystal on any watch with the end of a ratched hard and you are likely to break it. My daily watch is a Luminox - very sturdy and has bright time points / hands when it's dark - the luminesonse is supposed to last 25 years, bought it for early morning fishing and hunting.

Citizen Eco Drive. I don't wear it while I'm working so it doesn't get thrashed. It is quite durable though. I have several automatics as well and so far they haven't missed a beat, literally. Automatics are great as long as you get a quality movement. The cheap ones don't last.
