What is this? 2 outlets and a ... what?

2 of my bahtrooms have this setup? What the hell is it?

I thought it may be glow in the dark, so I shone a flashlight on it for a while and turned the light off...... nope.

I tried pushing it, seeing if it would click..... nothing.

What the hell is this?

I can understand this in the kids bathroom, but in the 1/2 bath downstairs it seems overkill.

I think it's actully called an outlet...A socket is something you screw a bulb into...

I'd guess it's either an EL light panel or it's a touch sensitive dimmer switch.

Its an EL panel nightlight. They also have cover plates with EL panels in them so the whole plate glows. They were popular years ago but seem to have died off.

I have to say I also miss UK sockets at my place in France, the euro sockets there are all unswitched and they just seem flimsy in comparison. They also have way more relaxed rules than we do. I was amazed when we were first having the house wired up when the electrician asked me how many sockets I wanted in the bathroom (thats a big no no in the UK apart from a low voltage shaver socket) I also couldn't find an equivalent to our fused spurs to connect an electric panel heater so ended up using a UK one. They also mix lights and sockets on the same circuit.
