What is high bay lighting differnt than regular or low bay? When would you use high bay? Under 20 feet, under 10? My work shop is 10X20 with a 10 foot ceiling. Looking to get some lights? How many would be good?

high bay is for over 20ft. there is also low bay which is for use under 20ft, but with 10ft ceilings you should just be using T8 strips.

Also almost all HID (metal halide, sodium, mercury, etc.) lights are adjustable and cover a range of heights. I have 'high bay' lights in my shop, with an average ceiling height of about 14 ft, but by adjusting them to the very limit I get excellent coverage. Also the design and style (mine have glass reflectors, so shoot a lot of light up, which reflects off the white ceiling insulation) also effect lighting quality.

As MRB says, were this my shop, I'd just go with T8 lamps (which I have in addition to my HID lights).
