Wiha Outlet Update June 2019

Got sent an email that some things were added. Not sure if any of this interests anyone.

Fair number of screwdrivers for a couple bucks, some retaining torx L-keys, 90* magictip snap-ring pliers, and the 14 pc ball end hex set are the standouts I think.

Free Shipping over $100 otherwise its $6.99 flat which is pretty reasonable these days.

https://www.wihatoolsoutlet.com/

Precision Ball End Hex 14 Piece Set $14.96

Screwdrivers $1.69 to $10.00

MagicSpring Torx L-Keys $0.60 to $1.13

6Pc MagicTip Snap Ring Pliers $89.96

Bought the snap ring pliers yesterday, 60% off list!

If it matters those are made in Vietnam, see https://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-34698-6-piece-90-degree-internal-and-external-ring-pliers-set/ for confirmation.

Gedore set, made in Austria, when purchased from amazon in Germany (shipped to US), is only a few bucks more. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002RA7UYK/.

I have one Gedore pair and had one Wiha pair that I gave to my son. Both the Wiha and Gedore are actually quite nice. Bought them when they were really cheap on amazon just to compare with my Knipex. Some prefer the Gedore ones to Knipex.

Be aware that not everything Wiha sells is made in Germany. Pliers seem to be from Vietnam and when I emailed Wiha and asked where a set of their punches was made they replied Taiwan.

If it doesn't state made in Germany in Wiha's description on their website most likely it isn't.

Just pointing this out as some may be disappointed when they don't receive made in Germany tools from Wiha.

I prefer tools that aren't manufactured in a communist country for political reasons. Not always possible due to availability and budget restraints.

As always, YMMV.

I don't care about Vietnam COO personally. I just think retaining grooves to stop the ring from coming off is brilliant.

Some actually do care about COO, others don't. That's why I said "If it matters those are made in Vietnam," and "As always, YMMV".

I care because I broke Wiha 3mm slot screwdriver bit. Guess where the bit was made...

Since then I am very cautious about what I buy from Wiha.

For the record, I was aware of the COO of the snap ring pliers before I pulled the trigger. I was also aware that owners of both the German made Wiha's and the Vietnamese made Wiha's have not found any discernible difference between the two. Time will tell.

In any event, they have to be better than the crappy interchangeable tip snap ring pliers I've been using...

My post was meant for those who do care about COO as well as for those that aren't aware that not everything Wiha is made in Germany.

Doesn't matter at all to those who don't care.

Some prefer Gedore circlip pliers over Knipex. My personal favorites are the high priced Knipex with precision tips.

Gedore set, made in Austria, when purchased from amazon in Germany (shipped to US), is only a few bucks more. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002RA7UYK/.

$10 more for the Gedore S 8008 Set of circlip pliers, 8 pcs. Plus you get 2 more pliers than in that Wiha set.

Your choice, your decision.

Interesting that you can buy via the German Amazon store/site for much less than the US amazon site.

How do you do that? Did you register for Amazon.de?

My us account logged in just fine. It is pretty well known. Problem is, some of the best deals will not ship to us at times.

The Proturn ball hex shafts are also not German. They're American. They're fine, but they don't have detents for their adjustable handles or the finish quality of the German-made System 4 shafts.

That Gedore S 8008 set is currently selling for $186.07 from KC Tool. Currently $154.54 on the USA amazon site.

amazon.de is a bit of a hassle, note that amazon.de hasn't added sales tax to my orders like amazon.com.

More stuff doesn't ship to the US than does, at least what I've looked at. Others have reported that amazon.de support replies to emails written in English in English.

So far all the tools I've bought from amazon.de have shipped from the UK.

Shipping was by DHL, so far I've always paid extra for the AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping.

Received my Wiha circlip pliers today and they are quite beefy and appear to be excellent quality. I'm sure they will be more than sufficient for my DIY needs. Interestingly, the external circlip pliers have an internal spring (enclosed inside the joint) rather than the exposed spring on the Gedore and Knipex versions.

Probably would have gotten the Gedore set if I'd known about the amazon.de deal, but c'est la vie. Oh, and Wiha (shipped from MN) didn't charge me sales tax, so that saved 9%

Wiha sent me some big news as they called it - they are now sold at Home Despot.

Dunno what that might do to pricing.

I doubt it will do anything to pricing. Lowe’s has been selling Wiha for a while. Both also sell knipex.
If anything it just gives me something worthwhile to spend gift cards on instead of **** like kobalt, husky and craftsman.

When they start selling, no big deal, when they stop selling, maybe some deals.
