wire wheels for bench grinder

what wire wheels for bench grinders is everyone using? dont want anything that will fly apart.

I like the knotted type but buy anything when I run across it cheap. They all loose wires so the rule with wire wheels is put on safety glasses and face visor THEN turn on the grinder. When you finish turn off the grinder and move away from the machine THEN take off visor and safety glasses.

I use a knotted wire wheel but not nearly as much as the 3m Scotch-Brite discs. The industrial supply place I get my where I get consumables also has these encapsulated wire wheels (see pic) but since my knotted is still is barely worn I haven't picked one up to try it.

Basically it's a solution to prevent the crimped wire from flying out but that's what the knot does. It is my opinion that not all knotted wire wheels are the same, either. So, pay a little more for one. Mine is US made... can't remember the brand. I put an inexpensive one on a grinder I fixed to sell and after getting it together to use it I could tell immediately that the wheel would look like a crimped wire wheel, eventually.

Do the Scotchbrite wheels have much weight?
Wondering about loss of flywheel effect if not?

Im using a Forney coarse crimped. Good quality and hasnt flow apart yet. There is minimal wire loss.

I did just basic use of a wire wheel. And I hated the knotted or twisted wheels. Just to aggressive. So I always used a good std wire wheel. And for sure with any grinder or wire wheel, use protection !

I'll only be using it to clean off nuts and bolts and other things of that size plus surface rust on stuff. Nothing to crazy.
