I"m new here so if I mess up, let me know. I bought a 1hp motor months ago and thought it was wired for 110volts. When I pluged it in it got hot to the touch real quick. After I looked at the tag on the side I found out somebody, the guy I bought it from(?) had rewired it from 220 volts to 110 volts. There is a tag on the side that gives the specs but no wiring diagram plate. There is an opening for hooking up the wiring that has "T1" "T1" (twice) a number "2" and a number "3". I"l try to add the pics I took so that might help. I plan to run it on 220 if that makes a differance.

How many leads does the motor have?
On the metal plate it has "Emerson Electric" And the model is "KS 73 CXCE-338". I"m going to try to load two pictures I have of the plate and the opening where the wires come out of the motor. I only see 2 wires. How can I add pictures? I tried twice and nothing? For some reason I get "invalid format" when I try to upload pictures. Oh well.

Ok, here goes again from another source. Thanks Steevo!! As for the pics, the left picture is of the tag on the side of the motor and the picture on the right is a closer up of the end where the wires are exposed. The wire nut, yellow, is also connected to the wire you see coming from the left side of the opening

Those other three nuts on the terminal board are also connections. Black wire with ring terminal is most likely a rotation selector, attaching to one of the terminals; need motor diagram to tell.

Good luck finding a diagram. WWW.emersonmotors.com is not working, may be dead for good...... local motor repair shop may have one.

There is no way that anyone had rewired that to run on 120v. its 208-220 only.

The green wire is probably the equipment ground. If it is, i hope u didnt hook it up to the incoming power feed!
The PO had it running on 120 volts. As soon as I tried it at home, a few months after I bought it, that's when I found it getting hot. I don't remember which wires were hooked up to what so I can't say where the green wire was hooked up to. I know that when I hooked it up to the house recepticle it ran although it ran hot.

I only see 2 wires total so the connections are actually at the terminals.

It was running hot probably because it was experiencing an over current since it was running on the wrong voltage as evidenced by the nameplate!

But did his particular model number show up? Found a number of wiring diagrams, just none for his model #.

I checked out both links and the second link took me to where I was able to ask for info about the motor. I took another look and your right, there are only 2 wires. I guess I"ll pull the end off the motor after I get the specs on the motor. Next time I"ll look closer at what I buy used.
