Wiring Motion Detector Lights

Since i wasnt thinking , when we wored the shop and didnt put any outdoor electrical boxes in. I was wondering if i could put one on a plug, so , that when i leave and lock up the shop. i could just plug it and lock the door, then it would be running until i open the door and didnt need it on. Is this idea safe?

Not sure about what you suggested, but a friend of mine put his outdoor flood lights on a 60 minute timer switch. He turns the timer on when he leaves his shop, turns the timer on for x minutes ..... lights go off x minutes after leaving the shop. The timer also had a 'hold' feature in the event he wants to work outside longer than the time set on the switch......
Having the lights on a motion sensor 'might' have the lights going on and off all night depending on the switch's sensitivity and the number of animals roaming the area.......

why not cut in a light, cut in a 3-0 box in the same stud bay as a plug,and wire up a switch its not to hard.
