Wiring my "semi-attached" garage

So the 15A circuit in my garage is no longer covering it. I picked up a 5hp 2-stage IR air compressor and I need some power. I have come up with the following circuits:
30A 230V for the compressor
15A for some lights
20A for Door Openers (2) plus a reel cord
20A for outlets
I want to run a 60A panel.
My house service is 150A and on the OTHER side of the house.
I say my garage is "semi-attached" because there is a 3' walkway between the house and garage, but the roof line is connected.

I am figuring my run will be as follows:
Out of service box, 12' across basement ceiling between rafters.
Up through 8' wall in bedroom closet
Across attic along roof rafters 35' into garage
Down garage wall (in conduit?) 8' into sub panel
Total run: about 65'

It seems 6 gauge copper should work for this from the online calculators I can find. Do they make a sheathed (Romex style) cable with 3 6 gauge conductors plus a ground (can the ground be 8?)? Can I run this in conduit at the garage to consider it "protected"?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Looks like 6/3 NMD should do it,it needs to be protected where exposed below 60" above floor.You won't need to run it in conduit above the panel in the garage,but it may look better.Check the price on 3/3 NMD,if the spread isn't too great,it will allow you to bump up to 100A later.

Now a bunch of guys are going to come on here and tell you to run 4" rigid steel conduit and 500MCM conductors for a future 400A service,:lol_hitti,what you have planned should be more than adequate.

I just got off the phone with the inspector. He was actually very helpful. He asked if I was a homeowner. I told him I was, but I have been all over the NEC book and just wanted to confirm a few things. Here is what he gave me:
1. Romex is acceptable in the garage.
2. 6-3 with a 4th leg for ground is acceptable for 60A.
3. Compressor outlet does not need GFCI.
It was a nice phone call.

The 60A service is fine for me. I have lived with 15A for 4 years and NEVER blown a circuit.
