I am on the Hamb some but my first time here.I need a couple of questions answered. I currently have a Garage that has one 20 amp circuit . I want to add but unsure of the best way . I currently have a Miller 110 volt welder and it will not operate properly on that circuit .
My house ( and main box) sets 100 feet from the garage where I need a box. My house has a 200 amp main and plenty of open spaces. I want to drop down from that box and run the new circuit in the crawl space till I exit the space. That part would be about 55 feet. I thought I could mount a junction box on the outside ,on the concrete blocks, and then go underground with conduit to the garage and thru the wall into a 50 amp breaker box.
I don't want to spend anymore than I have to . Can I run Romax style wire in the crawl space the the foundation box ?
Would it need to be in Conduit?
Can I use thhn in conduit ,underground from there on to the Garage box?
Steel or plastic conduit ?
Would it work to use Direct Burial instead ?
and not use conduit?
If my garage box is a 50 amp what size wire would either length need to be
I am 71 years old and this will not turn into a big shop . I do not think I will ever need more service.
I have a 15 gallon compressor and the welder. No plans for anything else .
I will run the service myself but will not hook it up ,I will hire an electrician for that . I have no desire to put together something that is not safe , just trying to save as much money as I can. Thanks in advance ,hope your warmer than I am.
