Hello.
I have an old Worthington Air Compressor. The plate says it is a 5T-2 size 4 7/8 / 2 7/8 / 2 1/8
The motor I have on there is not the original motor. The guy I got it from said that at one time it had a 5hp motor on it. Is it reasonable that a 2 or 3 hp motor would work for this? The tank is big and old. It says
John Wood Company
Conshohocken, PA
Natl BD HSB MFR
U (in a fancy Box)
277990 1964
SH 169 HD 144 R. ELL
W 200 PSI 650 * F
CPN

(I don't know tank capacity.)
Any help would be great. Thanks
Curt

"size 4 7/8 / 2 7/8 / 2 1/8" would indicate 1st stage cylinder has a 4-7/8" bore, 2nd stage a 2-7/8" and the stroke is 2-1/8". If that is the case a 2 or 3 hp motor would be woefully inadequate. Something in the mid teens would be more like it.

Worthington compressors are still being made, their service department may be able to help you with info on your compressor.

Thanks! I put a 5HP on it (as the guy I got it from said was on it) and it seems to be working fine. Thanks for taking the time to answer. :)

Glad it worked out for you, those old Worthington compressors are pretty stout.
