Lost power about 3PM today. Wife calls power company, told someone smashed into a pole. Would be an hour or more to get the pole, several hours to fix. Would definitely be back on before 10PM. So, out comes the generator, hook it up, flip the transfer switch. Flip on the breaker for the furnace, and listen to it start up. Back upstairs a few minutes later and all the lights are on. Asked wife when they came on - oh, just a few minutes after the furnace started running. 4:45 PM. Well, at least I know the gen works.

Yeah, but if you didn't do that, then once it started getting dark and you went to hook it all up the generator would have had issues, and power wouldn't have come back on till well past midnight...

Yea, thats my life too. but if I didn't do stuff like that, it would end up power off for longer, it would then be raining trying to get the generator running and be out of fuel
