WPA Plumb Axe

I was over at my grandfathers a few hours ago and he was showing me an axe he picked up at a yardsale. It said Plumb on the axe head, and W.P.A. on the handle. He said it was from the Works Progress Administration created before World War II to get people back to work after the great depression.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures with me. But have any of you ever heard of these? Anybody know the value of such an item? It appears to be in great shape.

FF: probably not a lot of value, but i bet they don't make axes like that anymore so don't give it away. since you don't have pictures you might want to get pictures and post on the SHOW YOUR AXES thread and here's the link:

also until you get some pictures you might check that thread and see if any are already posted. also ask maybe the same question over there. also value given by guys that own 5,10 or 50 of them might be different than what you can find on EBAY or Craigslist or some other search method.

As a boy my pals and I would wander around our town, and from time to time we'd see WPA stamped into some of the sidewalks around town. In time we figured it must stand for "Women's ***** Association". Ahhhh, youth!
