I'm restoring a Gang Cultivator on an old Farmall "A", there's a bunch of square nuts on it . They were the most practical for the old farmers , who mainly used Monkey wrenches and adjustables etc to repair things. I prefer an impact gun ! hahah

get some thickwall sq tubing and some plate and weld it up

I have a big thick 3/4 drive one now , and I need to use an adapter with it , I just want one thats more appropriate for the application .....

You do realize that 12-pt socket will work also for the square plug.

Even 60 year old nuts rusted solid to the bolts, with rounded and missing corners ?

Well, the same argument applies to 6pt vs 12pt. I do agree 12 point might more likely to round a fastener than the 6pt or a square. Even though I had never rounded a fastener because of using 12pt, I always reach out for a 6pt socket first. (I guess it makes me feel safer. ). As for a 60 years old rusted nut/bolt, I don't think 12pt or 4pt would make much difference especially for a large one like 1-1/8", the PB Blast or heat is your better bet. Just my $0.02.
