Good day yesterday, 2 good items but I only get to keep one of them.
First is Charles Parker vise. Has CC cast in it so what model is it? This is the item I get to keep
Second is really nice Delta Milwaukee band saw
1949 according to S.N. this I have to get going for the owner this winter in my shop, wish I could keep it also. I'm happy with just the vise

That’s a Parker model CC.
It even has the often missing giant wing nut still right there waiting to be unscrewed with perhaps a bit of penetrating oil to aid the disassembly. Lots of surface rust but I bet that underneath is a fantastic looking vise.

Just like Beerhippie, I envy your situation where you can get jewels like that CC for what I assume to be VERY little money.

So many of us think that great finds are going to become fewer and fewer as time goes by because there's no such finds left out in the wild. But almost every day someone posts pics of terrific treasures - like this one - that they've uncovered.

I for one am looking forward to this vise being restored and used! (y)

While cleaning up this vise the threaded rod hold down clamp has a patent date of Nov 26 1867 and is broken
I'm sure that is not the date of manufacturing.
Any thoughts?

I used to frequent a Ft. Lauderdale area junkyard, I knew the owners. They were OK w/allowing me into the yard. They sold, and the new owners wouldn't allow anyone into the yard beyond the office door. Scratch that resource! It's a shame because they were probably the closest scrapyard to Port Everglades, (Ft. Lauderdale) so there was a lot of aluminum and SS, and some interesting pieces like large brass castings.

Another place I hit a bit further south, he allows me into the yard, but things like vises, I think he may sell privately. I haven't asked him where he sells them, he just tells me, "not for sale" when I find some tool like that. He gets a big volume. I buy most of my extruded aluminum pieces from him.

Does anyone know if hold down bolt is threaded into base or is it cast and cannot be removed?
Thanks for help with this. Bill
I doubt that it is anything but threaded into the base. I have a through the bench mount vise on display so to make it fit on the shelf, I just drilled a hole in the shelf. If you feel the urge to remove the rod, I would be super careful about possible damage. To me, I felt it better to drill a hole in my shelf compared to the risk of trying to remove a part that had been stuck there for 100 years.

He might have a buddy with whom he has an agreement to funnel all the vises, etc. to him.
Otherwise, I would think that if the guy has a business that is based on selling stuff for more than he paid for it, that the vises etc. would be for sale. Certainly not at the scrap price of so much per pound but at some relatively modest premium depending on condition.

Just to answer a few questions. The owner is a good friend and I Help out at the yard just about every day. Snow removal in winter, keep used oil burner going and grading yard in summer and just about anything I can help with.
I usually go every day as I am a retired Lineman.
The owner is really good to me for picks in the yard as I don't take Any money for my help as I enjoy looking at all the interesting things that come in. He has only a couple employees so he appreciates my help with anything I can help with
As I said it's a great thing that I can pick stuff that interest me. Thanks for the responses and will post my next find. Bill
