I seem to fall down YouTube rabbit holes on a regular basis… Most recently, I stumbled upon some guy that finds, repairs, and I guess sells old buses of all things. At first glance, this doesn’t seem all that interesting but if you let it play in the background while you work away on the computer, you’ll quickly get hooked. There’s just something about the adventure of traveling hundreds of miles to pick up, repair, and drive home a big ass buss that hasn’t been on the road in decades.

Nice. I hope there will be a build thread on this. I remember seeing commercial buses like this as a kid.

Pretty cool. Reminds me of my old 75 Chevy B Series with a Detroit. Sat for 10 years before I found it. My buddy followed me from the cow-pasture to the shop. He had to be rushed to the hospital for poisoning via-inhalation from the bad diesel in my tanks. He survived and you could not kill that motor, no matter what.

Unfortunately I couldn't watch that video - I have an inner ear issue that makes me want to vomit watching a Point of View (POV) video like that. I can't even play/watch video game because my inner ear doesn't "track" what my eyes are seeing and rebels.
I'm not taking Dramamine to watch youtube videos. . . .

I have been following him for about 6 months.
He is a traveling mechanic that travels in his old bus to go either fix other peoples buses or teach them how to work on them. he only works on 2 cycle diesels.
He says he is self taught, after buying an old bus to turn into an RV.
I now know more about Detroit 2 Cycle diesels after going down many rabbit holes.
I enjoy watching them starting up these old buses that have been sitting for years.
This is one of his latest ones.
An epic trip that was around 14+ hours to drive from NC to Florida.
The one thing that bothers me is that he sometime uses the wrong tool for the job and really abuses some tools.

I would drop a more modern drivetrain in it - probably an 8.3L Cummins with an Allison transmission in it, probably change out the rear end and then drive it.
Restore the interior, do a repaint and go.

I started watching his channel a few months ago. A lot of good content!

I was thinking the same thing. The vibration from that drive-train must be epic compared to modern muscle.

Reminds me of the 1948 Flxible that formerly belonged to the Texas Top Hands western swing band. It sat outside the Broken Spoke dancehall here in Austin, TX for many years.... before disputes between the owner of the bus and the owner of the Spoke led to it getting moved elsewhere... not sure about its fate... hope it's running by now?

Last I heard it was on display (not restored, not running) at "Texas Pride BBQ" on Loop 1604, East of San Antonio.
I think the BGM video's are great, I'm looking at a vintage bus in the Phoenix area.

The Dripper is like 80% of the reason to own one of these old buses. You lose the character without the screaming demon. With all the sound insulation and being at the back, I don't think it would be bad at all.

For those that like to go down rabbit holes try you tube videos of Turnin Rust. They are located in Bogota TX and find old step vans and pickups and get them running.
Found Scott before the pandemic when he was still living in and traveling in his Greyhound Silverside (Lenny) with wife Kelly. Watched his move from Chicago to Tennessee where he worked in the hot sun while building his now solar heated and cooled steel building with two bay bus shop and beautiful living quarters. He and Kelly live in the nicely appointed back end of the shop and Tyler lives in his, work in progress, Silverside project bus as well.
