Welcome Our New Sponsor

Ladies and gentleman, may I introduce you to a new sponsor here at the Garage Journal, Wren Hand Tools, a distributor of Toptul tools.

Established about 15 years ago, Toptul tools were designed to improve the manufacturing process, operational convenience, and practicality of conventional tools.   However, there wasn’t a distributor here in the U.S. until now.   Meet TGJ member Mike Wern, the only U.S. distributor of the Toptul brand of professional tools.

Mike is offering a 20% discount to all Garage Journal members over at Wren Hand Tools. On top of the 20% discount, Mike’s having a sale too!   Check it out and if you see something you like, let him know you’re a Garage Journal member by giving him your screen name.

Thanks for the discount Mike!

Mike - welcome and thanks for offering the discount to members here.

One suggestion for you - you may want to consider posting your prices directly on your website or perhaps in a PDF file. As they exist in your excel file, it is relatively easy for even a novice user to reveal your unit costs and pricing structure

jmack, should be password protected unless you know how to defeat that.

Next....it is pronounced just like tool.

Cyclone, you can email me a list of wants or download the excell spreadsheet available on my site.

You can copy the columns and rows from the work sheet to a new unprotected Excell work sheet and it will expose the columns you have hidden. Example:
0002 DBAB2206 6" 1 PCS 3.27 28.467 3.27 $3.92 $8.24 $8.24

BTW - the password protection in Excel only prevents the structure of the worksheet from being changed and the data being changed within the existing worksheet. Does not prevent the data from being copied and pasted into a new unprotected worksheet.

Exactly. I didn't want to describe the method, but all I was saying is that it is very easy.

As a general rule, you should never post anything to your website you don't want people to see - even if you think it's hidden. PDF or straight HTML on the website will work best because there is nothing behind the scenes - people can only see what's there.

Only suggestions to help a fellow member and sponsor.

I figured seeing is believing.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will make a word doc tab for prices and put one under each tool category. Thanks again!

I have to say, for me it's a major distraction having to go to the external pricelist to find out what the price is for something. I have to keep switching back and forth between your website and your pricelist and remember what the part number is.

vette.............shipping not included..of course.

Beard........yes I know. You're about the 20th person to bring it up. But I will improve the site as sales increase, not the other way around. If you need me to look up prices for you I can do that, if you want quotes etc. Basically the price list tells you that I am about one-third the cost of the big names on most items. Also the simple website for now is what keeps the price down. So while you find it a distraction, if you do end up buying from me, it will have saved you a ton of money.

And to both of you...thank you very much for at least looking!! I really appreciate it.

67 Pete...yes right now as a matter of fact!

Just as a bit of advice, you may want to save your Word file to an older version that would be more compatible across the board. I like how you've broken the price list up per category, but since I don't have the newest Word (which supports .docx files), I can't open it up to see the prices.

I'm not trying to be a bother, just suggestions from someone who rarely purchases anything in a store anymore.

I agree with beardking to a point. I downloaded Word 2007 converter to see the price list with Word 2003. It was a painfully slow process. I highly recommend that you display the pricelist via HTML. If that's not possible at this time, then I suggest PDF format because it's widely used and Adobe viewer is free.

Bingo! Contrary to popular belief, Microsoft Office documents are amung very worst formats to use for internet downloads. MS appears to go out of it's way to keep modifying their formats to encourage/force upgrades to even read Office documents. And MS Office document readers/converters are not commonly available on ALL platforms (e.g. Unix) in a timely manner. Besides, MS Office documents contain lots of "hidden" info about the computer that was used to produce them (e.g. the OS, directory structure, user name, etc.).

I'd go with HTML or PDF as pattenp suggests.

+1  :bounce:

You can convert Word files to PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro, and probably some others, too.

Just thought I would throw a thread in here.
the sale lasts until the end of this year. The goal is to get folks to try this brand of tool. That's it. I have had not one complaint from any customer. There is always a LOT of speculation in any forum, but it has been from people who have not purchased from me. There is bound to be questions regarding any tool from Taiwan. But again, not one broken ratchet yet and not one complaint from any customer.
There have also been comments on the price list. I'm sorry in advance if you can;t open the price list. If that's the case, just email me a list of what you're looking at and I'll shoot the prices back to you. Simple as that. Please use my wrenhandtools address, not a private message on this forum. It is easier for me to keep track of and respond to and I always check my business mail first. In other words, you'll get better service.
If you want an item that I do not have and you want me to order it and bring it in for you....it will take 45 days or more for the next order to get here but you will still get the sale price if you let me know before the order departs the factory. I will send a mail out when the next order is closed.
ANy other questions please don;t hesitate to ask and thanks for reading.

Sincerely,
