A couple of weeks ago, I reviewed a set of tie downs that I liked. During the proceeding discussion, one of our users mentioned that he had a small business that designed and manufactured cargo tie downs for various trucks. Next thing I knew, he sent me a set and I was installing both his bedside tie downs as well as his rail tie downs on my Toyota Tacoma.
If you are unfamiliar, the Tacoma comes with both fixed bed side eyelets as well as easily moveable tie downs made of plastic that slide fore and aft on a bedside mounted rail. This duo of billet aluminum parts replaces both.
Elephant in the room first. These tie downs are damned expensive. The rail set runs around $130 and the bedside set runs around $90. Together, you have a set of tie downs that aren’t crucially more functional than stock for over $200. Crazy, right?
I guess… I mean, these things are certainly extravagant. But, if you use your bed tie down system almost every day and you like the idea of supporting a guy that makes things the right way… Well, it’s an extravagance that makes me smile.
The tie downs are machined beautifully, anodized to perfection, and they are actually easier to hook than my stock units. Of course, my stock bed sliders can easily be moved fore and aft without a tool while these require an Allen wrench, but it works for me as I typically keep the tie downs closest to the tailgate stationary while another set (closer to the cab) are used for adjustments.
These aren’t for everybody, but I sure am proud of mine. You can get your own here. Also, the TGJ member responsible for these is offering a discount to members. So, send him a message if interested!
