Circuit board standoffs immediately come to mind. More curious... why do I have a 1/8" socket in 3/8" drive?

Does seem a bit odd doesn't it. My 1/4 sockets go down to 3/16 and 4mm. Smallest nut driver is 1/4 but metric set also starts at 4mm. Smallest carb wrench is 5/32. Don't recall anything requiring 1/8 but I'm sure it's out there or they wouldn't have made socket lol. I don't own any but there are a few 1/8 drive sets out there with 1/8 x 1/8 dr sockets. Pretty small. My son uses a lot of 1, 1.5 and 2mm hex drivers in RC hobby which would be similar scale but don't recall coming across 1/8 nuts or bolts before. Believe older Fords used 5.5mm alot in instrument cluster and under dash but that's quite a bit larger than 1/8.

I have a set of SAE combination wrenches that goes down to 1/8". It came out of the Fairchild Republic Company, if that helps to guess at the application.
I had an 1/8 wrench I bought from snap on because it was the only one I could find when I needed one...little guy was close to 40 bucks! It resides on my wife's keychain...which is why I bought it. Gave it to her on our eighth anniversary...since she had been the one for eight years...just so happens she loved it!

seem to remember a lot of aircraft nuts this size and even smaller. Have a bunch of dash three bolts (AN3, or 3/16, obsolete nomenclature, but still referred to this way) In the basement. Handy little things.

I have a 1/8" Snap On deep well 1/4" drive. Have used it numerous times on commercial aircraft relays and electronics. Often on these tiny sockets it is necessary to grind off the chamfer so they can actually get a grip on the tiny nuts or bolt head.
Sounds painful.

So, no joke, but yeah, I have had that come up. At work, I have SquareD SurgeLogic SPDs off 480V 3-phase panels. These live in a steel NEMA 4X enclosure (in case they have an RUD) with a circuit board mounted on standoffs, and individual modules bolted through the board. SquareD has inch-lb torque requirements for these bolts for when a module needs replacement, so I use the same insulated torque wrench I use for battery post bolts for this job too. I used to use a crows-foot, extension and handle to keep the hex standoffs from rotating, but I've since bent a junk wrench that I keep with the spare modules.I’m surprised. Am I the only one that torques his circuit boards?

I have Xcelite down to 3/32”. Makes the 1/8“ look large by comparison.

I use 9mm sockets all the time. Mostly working on vintage bicycle parts. It is probably the most used metric in all my tools.Came looking for 9mm socket, leaving disappointed.
