Starting my 30 x 60 garage .

Hi guys I’m in the process of starting my 30 x 60 garage . It will have scissor trusses . Little question. I got my plans back to go over and was wondering about the girder truss they put on to support the door . Is the common thing ? Or is there other ways to do it ?

Probably to Carry the weight of the door when it’s opened and so it needs to hang lower for the door tracks. Assuming. On my shop i should of added scissor trusses as i built a mezzanine.

With that door height, wall height, and truss spacing, your door tracks will be longer than they ultimately have to be. Just a FYI.

I just imagined you were worried about overhead clearance, hence the scissor trusses.

Should it be designed differently? Sorry for my ignorance, this stuff is still new to me .

Kind of Depends on what you want, where you live, etc...
Scissor trussues will give you a lot of overhead room, but if you are in a cold climate, it's a lot of heat loss.
If your door is 10' tall, you don't really need any more headroom as you can't get anything taller in there, unless you are adding a lift?

As for the girder truss, It is there to carry the weight of a 16' wide x 10' door when the door is open.

I have a flat ceiling, 10' walls 9' tall 18' wide garage door and used LVLs to support the opening.

I’m using scissor trusses so that there is room for a Mezzanine inside .

And the girder truss is it a separate roof truss ? Or just beam running across ?

As 35k0 said, it depends on what you're after. If you plan to have a lift near the door, the tracks may be in the way. If you're not worried about headroom in that area, it isn't an issue.

I just did and contacted truss company, looks like it’s not needed.
