I‘ve been taking advantage of some hot weather to refinish some 1/4” drive sets with wrinkle finish overcoated with my favorite Midwest Military green. These boxes badly needed repainting.

I did one more prewar small set yesterday afternoon. I almost waited too long since the hot day started to cool off. Yep. Duplicating these early sets is never easy or inexpensive. If you opt for the green set, I’ve been using VHT wrinkle finish black (on hot days only to aid the wrinkling) top coated by a very thin coat of the Midwest Military paint shown below. I haven’t tried to duplicate the earlier “elephant hide” paint scheme.

Here is an example of the paint your box likely came with.CB7672E1-7558-482F-B03B-0D21B7AECDA9.jpeg912BBC4F-2671-45C0-91EC-C4A8B157B6AA.jpegB94B3F25-9470-4753-AFED-2606FDBA13E7.jpeg
If I could have found S-K Chrome spark plug sockets I would have preferred them.A74D2274-44F8-4C10-9005-6D397D64F954.jpegA82DFCE9-F304-433E-AFF8-B6DBC4F07719.jpeg

I made a bid on this set but the seller had a high reserve and the set failed to sell. After the auction was over, I contacted the seller and made a reasonable offer and got it on a buy it now. It had a Walden 1/4” placeholder and the 11/32“ socket was damaged. I did a little bodywork on the box and added the correct sockets. The set is now complete but the box will need more straightening work and a wrinkle repaint.

Completed but needs a repaint and more straightening.

No way, I would never pay that. Ever. There were a couple of sets of them at that sale. I see Cherchuk at many of the same sales. I always keep my eye out for some of the rare items others get, and then watch for them on Ebay and then I know who's who. I don't think I've ever bought one SK item off ebay. I've sold a bunch several years back but nothing in the past several years. There is just too much of the stuff around here. I think I paid 8 dollars for both those sets above.

I’ve joined the S-K nutdriver club. I’ve still got a ways to go, though.

It was on eBay. I saw some others but they were either damaged or extremely expensive. I have an ongoing eBay search going so I will eventually find more.

Here is a style of Wayne combo that I hadn’t seen before. I picked it up for Tommy for a future trade. 937E2992-F3AE-4C2A-8E56-F84436499308.jpeg
At the same sale I found a well used large 1-1/8” S-K Lectrolite combo. Here it is after cleanup. Formerly my largest was 1”.D3996998-334B-4255-8284-7BEA24749F3F.jpeg1837FC7C-3B0A-4E1F-8E44-0528751F7D42.jpeg

On ebay, stamped SK. Anyone seen one before? It's in Europe

When I find S-K combos at estate sales, especially large wrenches, I’m not usually too picky. I traded away quite a few S-K Tools marked wrenches I order to make a complete S-K set. I would prefer the earlier wrenches without the additional markings but I don’t really find the newer ones offensive. They are easy for old eyes to read. 🥸

Picked this up at an auction,it was in a box of random ****, i'd guesstimate I paid roughly $2 for it.

Set as found, oddly came with no Wayne stuff.

Found a few of the sockets in other boxes I or @JohnDeere bought, the rest where filled in from spares. I know It doesn't have the correct stuff in it but it is a user set.

Here is what it is supposed to be.

Nice set Don, you think mine is an early enough set it has over stock sockets, because the ones it had were that style of sockets?

I’m no Wayne expert but it did take them a few years after the S-K/Lectrolite purchase to use up the earlier inventory. I would expect sockets marked like this one or possibly a mix. I noticed in your catalog image that they no longer included a flex handle and crossbar but had added another extension and a spark plug socket.
