Found an ad on CL for a vise. Old fella who didn't wanna post pics and just wanted the buyer to stop by...so I did. Well the vise was cheap junk, but he offered me this for $20 along with a spare switch as he said the one on the motor was bad.

I'm hoping GJ can educate me on what it is used for. The Google searches didn't turn up much, but based on the configuration I assume it's for buffing/polishing?

buehler makes really high grade scientific tools for dicing, sanding, polishing, etc. samples for analysis.

that looks like one of their sample polishers.

My favorite is their 12” diameter variable speed wet disc polisher (think horizontal disk sander that can swap disks in less than 10 seconds). Totally awesome for sanding and polishing stuff with no worries on overheating the part.

Here is a Buehler 39-1450 on Ebay for $495 for reference. I think you did pretty well for <$20

Thank you very much for providing the link. That is very helpful. I'm not at all familiar with the grinding/polishing wheels shown on the eBay link. Or I guess familiar what one would typically use a setup like this for.
