How can I get setup to have the threads marked as read only when I have read them?

Once is enough, they leave a lasting impression.:)

In the notes about posting it states that this can be done, it just does not explain how to make it happen. I guess no one knows how to make it happen! :headscratThis feature is used in other forums and is very nice. The posts stay highlighted until you have read them.

How can I see the latest posts?
There are two ways to quickly view recently created or updated threads.
If you are not logged in, the 'today's posts' link will show a list of all threads that have been created or updated in the last 24 hours.
If you are logged in, the 'Today's Posts' link will change to 'New Posts', which gives you a listing of all threads that have been created or updated since your last visit.
The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.
There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

I think in the case of Garage Journal, the setting is about 24 hrs. My seem to change from Bold (unread) to normal (read or past the time limit) at about 24 hrs.

No manual way to Mark All Read however.

This is exactly what I was referring to. They go not bold whether you have read them or not!

Ok -- so it's not just me that has this problem. Could the time setting be extended, perhaps? I'm not sure 10 days is necessary, but I'd appreciate more than 24 hrs. 48 or 72 might be better....

Cheers!

Hmm. Now it seems like it's on a cycle of just a few hours. It's moving in the wrong direction! :shocking:

When you log in and open a forum the threads are bold until you scroll down or come to a page where you had last logged out. So, if you logged out at 10:20 last night all the active threads will be bold till you reach 10:20 yesterday. If you read a thread then jump to another forum and come back to the first one the only the thread you read will not be bold.

What an annoying "feature". What I'd really like would be a "Mark forum read" button -- so that I can decide when to mark everything read, not have the forum decide for me!

This is the only forum I'm on where "Mark Forums Read" doesn't work. I get a message:

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

Guess I'll do what it says and contact a mod.

I'm lifting this thread because I find it very annoying that threads that I haven't read are marked as read.
Sometimes I don't have time to read all updated threads, just the most interesting and save the rest of them till next time.
