Anyone else have these Gray wrenches? These were produced for those not able to afford the real thing. They look like Gray, feel like Gray, except no markings to indicate so, and also no guarantee......you're on your own. They were called their "Maple Leaf" line. I bought a set from 11/16" to 1 1/4", with my employee discount while working at a place (1960) that also ran a tool store.

Now, they have a real home in my newly acquired "Gray" box. Wish I had paid more attention to those boxes back then, but they were totally out of the picture then and not even on the radar.

I suspect they were from the era when Gray was in cahoots with Bonney and may have been sold under either name.

Yeah they were way after Gray and Bonney parted ways in the early sixties.I have some kicking around that were from the seventies.

No, much later; likely 1970s or 1980s...

OP: "I bought a set from 11/16" to 1 1/4", with my employee discount while working at a place (1960) that also ran a tool store"

lilredex said he bought the wrenches in 1960....my point is that this gives us an 'early' build date. They may have sold them into the 1980's but at least we have a reference date.

I'll dig out my 1950's and 1960's Canadian tire catalogs and see if there are any clues in the tool section.

I had a quick look through my wrench pile and pulled out all the different Gray trademarks I could find in ten minutes. Sorry about the picture quality...

There are probably many more...this is from the stash in the woodshop, I'll look in the garage later.

I've included a couple MASTERCRAFT wrenches in the sample as well...we all agree they were made by Gray, don't we? :)
